The islet, owned by Edoardo de Filippo, is called Galluzzo by local fishermen, in the ancient manner, and for many centuries had preserved extensive remains of a large Roman villa that included two nymphaeums in two natural caves.
Historians say that all the buildings—the domus, cistern, and nymphaeum—were located on the side facing the nearby coast. Even today, a few sparse remains of the villa can be seen along the wall overlooking the coast, across a stretch of sea about one hundred meters wide.
